Could not upload cover image. It seemed to freeze and the image was never loaded. It just remains a blank with no image on the file.

cover uploaded, but isn't there. Covers that other users have uploaded for the same book appear with broken image icon rather than the cover. https://www.librarything.com/work/448742/book/164559691

I think it may be images in general. For me the recent profile images at http://www.librarything.com/gallery/recent show blanks for the most recent 5 images. Same with the most recent author image.

Thanks for the report, all, and sorry—I've pinged developers about this, will report back asap.

Note for devs: I was able to successfully upload a new cover (screenshotted) on www (https://www.librarything.com/work/15050704/book/163730614), but uploading the same image on athena throws errors.

Okay, here's the latest! Image uploading is working again. You should be able to add new images without any further trouble. There are, however, some lingering issues with images uploaded previously. Copy-pasted from the bug report about that:
It looks like the server that generates and delivers images (i.e. covers in varying sizes) ran out of space—it was generating image files that were blank. So, on our end, it looked like images were still being generated, but, as we discovered here, they were not!
Our sysadmin is currently working on a process to clear out those blank generated image files, which should be done later today. I'll post again once that's complete, and I've verified that images mentioned here have been returned to their rightful places.

Seems like whatever "server full" alerting you have needs to be set to ping someone when it gets to, say, 90% full, rather than 100%, so that even if the alert happens at sysadmin local midnight it can still get fixed before users are impacted? (I am, perhaps naively, assuming that you do have some sort of "server full" automated alerting in place!)

>8 lorannen: Lorannen, Thanks! I've re-loaded my image and it worked fine this time.

Thanks it is working again!

I'm having the same problem on a few books. I added about 10 books in about an hour. 3 books ( I think) had that error, but the others were fine. It seemed really odd. Just before this I started to print an inventory, and it loaded on the screen correctly, then I decided to add those books, so I waited to print. I added the books, had the problem, went back to redo the inventory, and now it still loads correctly on the page, but when I click print and it opens the system print dialog, it only shows half of the first page. I thought it was a system problem, so I went to my laptop and my husband's computer and it does the same thing, and tried sending to a different printer also.

Tested and confirmed, thanks for the report! Some changes were made to images last night that are probably related to this. Once conceptDawg is on, I'll have him take a look. Thanks.

Ok! This should now be fixed if folks want to test. Thanks for your patience.

yep, fine now, thanks

>21 Conkie: Do you mean you cannot upload cover images, or you're not seeing cover images that should already exist?
ETA: I was just able to upload a cover image on my end, fwiw, and I'm not seeing any blank/missing covers on LT at the moment.

>22 kristilabrie: I was not clear about the issue. I was trying to upload a new cover under "change cover". I had tried several times on at least 2 different titles, using different picture files, and was receiving the same error code.
Just tried again (10 hours later), and it did load correctly. Since this string seems to deal with pic problems over a period of time, do I change the bug status?
Edited for clarification

Okay, thanks for clarification. I'm seeing some brief spikes around the time you reported the issue, but they look okay now. The developers are aware of intermittent server issues and discuss them as needed, so let's just keep tracking them here when we can. Since the issue isn't active at the moment, let's keep the status as-is for now. Thanks.

I have just had the same issue as reported in >21 Conkie: while trying to upload a cover image.
26lyzard
This morning I have a different cover issue: when I enlarge the cover image to copy the image link, the image itself fades out; and when I use the link on my thread, the image that comes up also fades out.
I'm not sure I'm describing it very well, but the cover image I'm trying to copy is here:

>26 lyzard: Let me see if I am understanding your issue... I clicked on the image to enlarge it. When it enlarged, the bottom 1/3 was not showing up.
So, I right-clicked and did "Save Image As..." to my computer. Then I re-loaded it to my Junk Drawer on LT.
Result: I was able to save the complete cover to my computer and reload to Junk Drawer. I'm wondering if it's original file on LT is too large to fully display inside the "Information" pop-up window? Thus, the picture is truncated in its display.
I am showing it here (link from Original Cover), to see if the complete file will load.

Yes! - when I used 'copy image link' to add it to my thread, the bottom 1/3 came up missing there too.
I can re-save the image to my junk folder and go from there, but I don't understand how this is happening. I have loaded many cover images of different sizes, including bigger than this one, but I have never seen this glitch before.
Is there any new restriction on the size of uploaded images?

>28 lyzard: Honestly, I do not know if there has been a change to image sizes. I just know there is the occasional weird glitch, and this is definitely one!
So that I understand your last comment... when you right-clicked on the image (from the work page, NOT the Cover Images/Information pop-up window), and clicked on "Copy Image Location", then pasted that link to your thread, the bottom third was still missing?

I may have right-clicked it from the pop-up window, I'm not quite sure now. (In fact I probably did, because that is where the lower third was not showing in the first place; I didn't think the glitch would carry over.)

UPDATE: Just did an experiment... I saved the book cover .JPG from the work page, then from the "Cover Images/Information" pop-up window... for some reason, they are different file names! I'm not a programmer... I wonder what the purpose of generating a new file name would be?
ETA: Update. ETA2: Correction

I will run through it again today to check, but I have since copied a different cover just from its work page image, and that went fine.
I didn't know that, but then I'm not a programmer either. :)

I'm getting the "Unable to process that as an image error" when trying to upload a small sized jpeg cover image from my MacBook Air in Chrome. Can't believe this still happens. Appreciate any help.
