Happy April birthdays, everyone!
My good news is that DH is home from his third hospital stay (non-COVID). And I'm still employed and we have good neighbors and friends who are looking out for us.
And I'm learning new technology during this time and Sir Patrick Stewart is reading Shakespeare's Sonnets on Instagram.
Bits of good news from here in the ATL-area.

What a nice idea to recognize our celebrations big and small.
Belated thanks for the BD greetings!
My granddaughter turned 4 last week. We celebrated via FaceTime.
Haven't seen her in person since Feb. :(

>17 nrmay: It's times like these that we are grateful for all the technology that allows us to see/visit with friends and family. I do the birthday/anniversary thing for all the sites that I belong to. We started doing it on Shelfari and just brought it with us to Leafmarks and now to LibrayThing. I hope that this is a permanent home for us here.

OK, I'll post: I finished two, not one, but TWO books by Juliet Marillier. I had started the first of these in March, but it was too deeply written and too intricate for dealing with all that was going on. So when I picked it back up late this month, I finished it in probably 10 days.
And the second I started right after the first (something I never do, since I like to savor good writing and good books). But this month, I was a glutton and I didn't gain a pound from this gluttony!
The Blade of Fortriu is 588 pages, The Well of Shades is 621. In one month. Me.
I consider that a major accomplishment and just wanted to share it with my LT friends!

So my happy news for September is that with DragonCon going virtual this year, I got to see John Scalzi's kitchen (during his interview a burrito making contest ensued), and I decided to try some of the novels by Jim Butcher. I was able to find a Dresden Files book at my local used book store - several of my friends here have read and recommended him so I thought I would share this good news.
And also Jack Chalker - I bought Lords of the Middle Dark last Monday and I am looking forward to delving into this world.
Oh, and if any of my sci-fi enthusiast friends would like, with DragonCon being virtual this year, they have a one-year streaming service to watch all of the panels at any time you would like. If you are interested, please PM me and I will pass you along the information.
One of the panels I attended/watched was on the 35th anniversary of "Live Aid." Yes, I remember that concert and the record that got it all started, and it was wonderful watching others who were relaying their memories of that concert. 35 years!! Wow. Hard to believe.

I remember watching Live Aid as well as I was a huge Duranie (i.e. fan of Duran Duran) back then. Quite a huge thing. Also really liked the "Do They know It's Christmas" video and had it on both VHS and LP.

>25 Jenson_AKA_DL: I remember that video!! Where they had all of the singers and the bits they sang as they were putting down their vocal track! Do you remember Sting's sideways glance when he had to sing "The bitter sting of tears"???
I bought friends the LP for Christmas that year. David Bowie couldn't be at the recording, and he (along with other musicians) did some spoken bits on the B side of the LP. Bowie's words have stayed with me for all those years: "Do whatever you can, however small, to help them live."

>68 threadnsong: My two friends that bring me books came last year for Thanksgiving and brought a standing rib roast that was so tender it almost fell apart when you looked at it. My husband and I furnished the rest of the trimmings. Turkey's tend to be too big if you don't have a large group and we don't. Our son is in Louisiana and our daughter is in Arizona. I guess the guys are working on something for this year. Conner loves to cook and is very good at it... and Luke is more than happy to let him. Luke says that letting Conner do whatever his heart desires reduces HIS stress and he gets great food in the bargain.

Thank you! It was an amazing birthday *weekend* for me - the Muses must have smiled on me!
I had my first public solo performance on the Saturday before, then went to an annual event at Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta called "Tunes from the Tombs." It features different bands from different genres, including a Dad with Sons jamming to dad's fave rock tunes. No kidding! Drummer was about 9, bassist around 12, and the guitarist/lead singer was probably a teenager. And dad was playing rhythm guitar right along with them.
Thank you again Carol for remembering and thanks for all the good birthday wishes to my (neglected) LT friends! Always find inspiration from y'all.

>97 threadnsong: Sounds like my type of fun. The little town in Florida I grew up in had a cemetery that was 220 years old at that time. My cousins and our friends used to go into it at night and tell ghost stories. We never did anything destructive...just tried to scare each other. There was almost more of us that were living that there was those that were dead anyway:) One night two of my uncles hid out in the bushes and made some ungodly noises thinking they were going to scare us but they badly unintimated how much we loved being scared out of our minds.

So this year, when Christmas celebrations (and performances) snuck up on us, we decided against a tree and went for garlands and a wreath. And DH even made a Yule log with space for candles that we've put (unlit) in our window. It's on a table with a flammable cloth, so for the time being it's for tradition.
The presents, even the ones for the fur babies, are wrapped and on a table and ready for tomorrow.
