Mom and I were talking about sewing/notions/crafting catalogs. She used to get the Clotilde catalog at the state conference. I'd long since forgotten about Clotilde; but apparently they were folded into Annie's Catalog/Annie's Craft Store.
Also, Nancy's Notions had a catalog for a long while. NN has now been purchased by the MSQCO, that will be interesting.
Anyone have favorite sewing/crafting catalogs? Any you can still get by mail?

I used to get one from Connecting Threads. Not sure if they're still around or not. They used to make kits from a fabric line - I think it was like 1/2 yd of the main print and smaller pieces (fat quarters?) of some coordinating prints. I still have one that I could never decide what to do with but loved the fabric.
And there was Keepsake Quilting which was a quilt store in NH that sent out a catalog.

>3 al.vick: - I used to order from them when I was still doing cross stitch.

I still have some Hancock's of Paducah catalogs from 2014-2016 that I keep around just to be able to browse happily through 35 pages of 12-16 pics of fabric squares. I'm fairly certain they don't produce it now, as most shoppers are accustomed to online shopping now (but perhaps they just don't send it to me:-)
>2 dudes22: I used to get the Connecting Threads and Keepsake Quilting ones also. I have, in the last year, bought some thread from the former. I used to like to drive up to Keepsake once a year and make a nice day of it, stop for lunch...etc. Both still do their catalogs.

I have bought yarn and needles/notions from KnitPicks online, and I was quite surprised to get a paper catalog in the mail from them recently. I would have thought they were an entirely online business. It is nice to browse the pretty yarn in bright color photos on paper, though.

>8 rosalita: I like the KnitPicks catalog, too. I'm pretty sure they are entirely mail order (no brick-and-mortar storefront). I wonder if they started out in a pre-internet era when catalog shopping was common.
One of my knitting friends receives a catalog from WEBS (www.yarn.com) but despite having ordered a lot of yarn from them, I've never received a catalog. Weird, but okay.

>9 lauralkeet: It is mysterious how companies choose who to send a catalog to. I wonder if you don't get one because they feel you order from them often enough that you don't need the extra nudge?

>9 lauralkeet: You might have to request the catalog? It seems I saw a mention of that recently on another web site...I forget who.

I do https://www.herrschners.com/ (all) and sometimes https://www.marymaxim.com/ (knit/cro) or https://www.nordicneedle.com/ (embr).
They all send out catalogs that I look through and then go buy online.
https://www.123stitch.com/ is a good website for xstitch kits and https://www.fabric.com/ (just fabric) but I don't think they have a catalog.

Not quite a catalogue, but I get a quarterly mailing from The Wool Studio https://www.thewoolstudio.com which specializes in wool yardage (fabric). The mailings provide swatches of the featured wool so that you can feel it and see the true colours. They do show them online as well, and their colour representation is very good, but there's nothing like actually seeing it for yourself.
I have ordered from them now for almost ten years and have been very happy with how quickly and well they mail out, not so happy with the USPS increase in international postal rates!
The mailings are based on your ordering habits. The first quarterly mailing is $5. Then after that they are free as long as you order 2 yards in a 6 month period. Otherwise, the company drops you from the list, however, it will happily add you back to their quarterly mailings if you order again.

>14 SassyLassy: Ooh, swatches - nice.
I've been meaning to order yarn colour palettes from a couple of the places I buy yarn from - because it's really difficult to tell shades on a screen. Not all the yarn producers have palettes, though, which is a great shame.

>15 PawsforThought: Jamieson and Smith in the Shetland Islands sells shade cards: https://www.shetlandwoolbrokers.co.uk/epages/BT4917.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/...
They have fabulous yarn.
Also Briggs and Little in New Brunswick Canada, might have them, they used to but I don't see them on their website: https://briggsandlittle.com
They are a really good "go to" yarn for everyday and outdoor knitting

>16 SassyLassy: That's great to know. I'll keep an eye out for them at the Swedish and Norwegian sellers - buying from outside the EU/EES isn't an option, the shipping and added tax would be several times what the charts themselves cost. But I always want to learn about great yarns, so thanks!
18SassyLassy
>17 PawsforThought: Maybe you could get an order in with Jamieson and Smith before December 31st while it is still in the EU! Otherwise I believe you could find their yarn in your part of the world. I k now what you mean about other countries though - you should see what Dale of Norway costs here.
Seriously, the EU breakup is so sad and is one of the things that has dominated my thoughts (and reading time) this year.

>18 SassyLassy: I stopped buying things from the UK six months ago. And even so, there's a high possibility it'd get stuck in customs and I'm not going through that circus.
Brexit is a complete shambles and I feel sorry for all the lovely people in the UK who have to suffer because others were suckered into believing obvious lies.
I can only imagine what Dale yarn costs over there. I just checked the website I usually use (for books AND yarn), and their 50 g ball of baby merino is 55 SEK, so around $5 - pretty standard fare for merino, I'd say.
