>1 clamairy: Count me not a fan of the new position and size of the "Leave Group" button. I expect to be popping in and out of the pub repeatedly, as my finger hits it when scrolling...
4clamairy
>3 -pilgrim-: I suspect you won't be alone!
5pgmcc
>4 clamairy: I can confirm that. I apparently am no longer a group member. When I read the above posts I went to the Group Page to see what the Leave Button looked like and I could only see "Join" and "Watch". Checked my profile and Green Dragon is not on my list of groups. Expect my application to join in the post.

I appear to be back in from the cold.

>5 pgmcc: My first departure occurred when the new format was introduced. No action required - as I described at the time. Since MrsLee reported the same result, I suspect it happened to anyone who was in the pub (i.e. had a thread open) at the time of the changeover.
Or maybe Rosie was in a huff with us all?

>7 MrAndrew: Thank you! The Group members seem really friendly. It’s like meeting old friends all over again.
9-pilgrim-
I can confirm my theory.
Yesterday we had the pleasure of the old Groups page, so I was active in catching up reading here. Then differently suddenly we switched back to the "improved version" (the one stripped of all useful information) - and I am booted out of the GD again.
It's not a miskey of mine. If you are in the group page when they reset their system, you get booted out of the group.
Oh, well.

>9 -pilgrim-: Hmmmz. I haven't had that, but what I have had repeatedly over the last few days is glacially slow service and frequent complaints that Firefox "can't find the \Librarything\ server".
12MrsLee
I get the old format when I first arrive to the group, but as soon as I post in a thread, it switches to the new one. If I could just keep my mouth closed...
13clamairy
I'm not seeing it on my phone, but I'm pretty sure I saw an option to view groups in the old style on my desktop yesterday.
It's the 'n' in the link that is causing the issues.

>27 clamairy: Thanks. I didn't mean to leave. I tried that one button ("Joined") to see what would happen, and it ditched me out of the group without warning. Bad design change, if you ask me.
29MrAndrew
Could have been worse. You could have ended up a siamese twin. You could have had all your books fused together. You could have become a member of a cult.
Don't press the "eject" button, please.

>27 clamairy: What was wrong with "Leave group"? It seems like an imperative verb of intended action would communicate results much more effectively than a past participle (without a subject) that expresses an action already performed. If I did want to leave the group, why would I click "Joined"? I hope the interface designer will reconsider.

>31 Meredy: If you are already a member, the button says, "Joined". Hover your pointer over the button and it changes to, "Leave Group". I assume the button says, "Join Group", for anyone that is not yet a member...?
I agree setting it up this way was a terrible interface design decision.

>50 MrAndrew: Might be interesting to see if any of us noticed something fishy.
54MrsLee
>49 clamairy: As an admin now of a much, much smaller and quieter group, I feel your pain. I find it depressing to keep welcoming folks who never seen to exist in the talk threads. Hello? Is anyone really there? :)
55clamairy
>54 MrsLee: I believe a very small percentage lurk, but the majority join and then never come back. It's very sad.
56MrAndrew
I prefer to think that it's an exclusive club. Or that i'm scaring people away. It's important to have a belief system that reinforces your sense of worth.
57clamairy
>56 MrAndrew: You might be onto something... (The exclusivity, not the scary part.)
58haydninvienna
There's probably a way for Tim & Co to see which GD members are on line but not posting. Maybe still wouldn't know which of the groups they were looking at though. I remember that a while ago I worked out that basically the whole of the posting activity in the GD was from about 30 people. I think pretty well all of them except Bookmarque and majkia have appeared in this thread.
59clamairy
>58 haydninvienna: We do have a few that come and go... and then come back again. I'm hoping a few more drift back in when they retire.
60MrAndrew
I plan on posting a lot more after i pass away.
>58 haydninvienna: i read that as "I think pretty well of all of them except Bookmarque and majkia ", which seemed quite out of character.

ETA SORRY ALL I MUST HAVE BEEN HALF ASLEEP WHEN I POSTED THIS. I REALLY DIDN'T, DIDN'T, DIDN'T INTEND TO DISS BOOKMARQUE AND MAJKIA.
I agree with >60 MrAndrew: : his alternative reading would indeed have been out of character.

This group name intrigued me.
I kicked off writing the plot outline of a fantasy dragon novella collaboratively, and we exchanged a lot of ideas how to do it remotely.
But it never gained traction during the good writing months of covid, and now we've gone back to semi-normal lives after lockdown ended together with Work-from-home, so it's just the germ of a dormant idea.

93Karlstar
>91 MrAndrew: A newt?
94MrsLee
>93 Karlstar: Back in the day, when trolls would sneak into the pub and cause havoc (which I don't remember MrAndrew actually doing), we would respond only with pictures of newts until they tired of us and moved on.
96clamairy
>94 MrsLee: It was surprisingly effective! And we did have a troll problem for a while. I'd like to say people have matured, but I think they just found more fertile ground on sites like Twitter and Reddit.

I began reading again, and started with Dragons of Autumn Twilight. I am reading it for the third time, this time in German. I don't remember anything, I haven't read the series for a very-very long time, it has been fun so far.

It is great to have you on board.
I love re-reading something I haven't read for a long time. It feels like I am reading it for the first time and I get so much more from the book on the second reading. I also love finding parts of the book that I do remember and on re-read I realise I have totally mis-remembered the scene. :-)

I'm teasing my way back into L.T. and hope to be more regular. Life is taken up by all sorts of useless behavior, like watching too much TV. But I did add a book here today, and I recommend it to any who like to read well written, well researched, history books. Title is: The Nazi Conspiracy and the authors are Brad Meltzer, and Josh Mensch.

>110 Meredy: I believe it was the whim of one of our early members, possibly littlegeek, but it could have been Morphy or another. I think they liked newt photos? I know everyone else did. Then we had a very nice member join whose name was DrNewt, or was it MrNewt? Anyway, the practice fell by the wayside even though he liked it. Mostly due to the better troll protections that LT came up with.
