I recently read Double Takedown, and while it was a decent read overall, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I missed out on some key elements by not starting with the earlier books in the series. The characters were developed enough to hold my interest, and the plot had its engaging moments, but there were references and backstory details that felt slightly out of reach for a newcomer like me.

For fans of the series, I imagine this installment would be a satisfying addition, but for someone jumping in midstream, it might lack the full impact. That said, the writing and pacing were solid, and I enjoyed getting a glimpse into this world. I might go back to the beginning to truly appreciate the depth of the story. ( )
