Ready Player Two

I love cyberpunk (books, films, games and films), and picked up Ready Player Two from a place called Cuyanoga County in Ohio (I am not even sure where the state is). I bought second hand and I love getting books with the original library labels on them. It's nice to know something about the provenance of the book. I have only seen the film to the first book, so I am looking forward to these two.

FYI, Cuyahoga County would be Cleveland, Ohio. It's a decent sized city located on the southern shore of Lake Erie in the US. Northern side of Lake Erie is Canada. Enjoy your book. :-)

It's also a library system with a national reputation for excellent service.

>2 pjfarm: Cheers. I would not have known that. My US geography is less than impressive.

>1 Genxer: Ready Player One really appeals to fans of 80's pop culture, including Dungeons and Dragons, TV shows and movies and the band Rush, of course.

>5 Karlstar: Mention of whom makes me think of a story that turned up in the New Musical Express back in the 70s:

A press cutting reprinted in the NME, headlined "Rush to give kids whooping cough jabs"

To which the comment was added: "Huh. Last tine I go to one of **their** gigs."

Interesting. I recently listened to the audiobook of Ready Player One and was much more interested than I thought I would be since I am a child of the 60s and really didn't ever get into video gaming. I may have to read the sequel some time.

As is usual for me, I much preferred the book to the movie. For those who have read Ready Player Two, is it worth the read?

As a child of the '80s I loved Player One. But I read his book Armada and it was terrible. Not only was it The Last Star Fighter, it repeatedly admitted that it was The Last Star Fighter. As a result I have been afraid to pick up Player Two. I am afraid it would sully my feelings about Player One. I won't read Go Set a Watchman for the same reason.

However, if it is really great, maybe I'll give it a go. I will wait to hear what people say.

Ready Player Two was both more of the same and less. It had some interesting things to say and the feature band this time is Prince. I can't say I enjoyed it as much as Ready Player One, but I didn't regret reading it.

How's that for ambivalence?

It wasn't the direction I would have liked the sequel to go, but it was a direction. I guess if the Star Wars sequel trilogy isn't how you wanted Luke Skywalker's story to play out after all these years, you'll know what I'm talking about. Still some of the flavor, still some good parts, but nothing like the original.

I think I am just going to give it a pass and keep my happy feelings about the first one.

>13 tjm568: Wise choice, I think. I have both of them on my shelf and reading to do list.
