2022 Philip K. Dick Award Nominees

Talking about long lists of books to read - the new awards season is under way again, starting as usual with the Dick nominations a week or so ago:

Defekt by Nino Cipri (novella; #2 in a series, can be read as a standalone but is better as part of its series AND it spoils the first badly if you start here)
Plague Birds by Jason Sanford (expanding the earlier story by that name)
Bug by Giacomo Sartori, translated by Frederika Randall
Far From the Light of Heaven by Tade Thompson
The Escapement by Lavie Tidhar
Dead Space by Kali Wallace

Just one series book this time around (and it is a novella and the first one is a novella as well so not too bad.

Anyone read any of these? Any thoughts? Any plans to read any of them?

I've read 2 (ha! surprising) - Defekt and The Escapement - I liked both although the latter can get (very) weird in places (but then what do you expect from Tidhar).

I plan on reading Dead Space because very few books have main characters with my name 😊. (It also sounds like something I will like.)

I haven't read any of these but I have read the first two books in the Rosewater series from Tade Thompson. I would read his nominated book based on his other novels regardless of it being nominated, and that just adds to the rationale.

I've read Far From The Light of Heaven and enjoyed it a lot and would definitely recommend it to people.

I haven't got around to the Lavie Tidhar yet but I will. I might pick up the Sanford too.

>5 andyl: The Tidhar is weird even for him but it actually works at the end. The start is somewhat... familiar - you are almost sure you had read the story before but then it clarifies (and the familiarity is explained in story without being referenced). I am not sure if that makes sense at all :) I really need to write a review... :)

I liked "Defekt" and the Thompson novel is on my near-term reading list. As for the rest, we'll see.
