Vorkosigan Saga Fans - Which book in the series is your favorite?

I love the Vorkosigan Saga by Lois McMaster Bujold. But of course, in any series, I always like some books more than others.

My favorite book featuring Cordelia is Barraryar - this is where Cordelia really comes into her own and makes a name for herself as "The Red Queen." My favorite Miles book in the series is provably Memory. But A Civil Campaign is such a fun romp - very fun to see the brilliant military strategist trying to handle courting a woman as a military campaign.

What is your favorite Vorkosigan Saga book?

Barrayar features Cordelia's famous shopping trip, yes? One of my favorite bits from ANY book.

I'm very fond of both Barrayar and A Civil Campaign. It's been a while since I read this series, but I'm just working through the audiobooks, and will think about your question as I go.

I love the whole series, but Memory is one I've re-read most. Watching Miles crash and burn, and then haul himself back up again is always entertaining.

Mind you, A Civil Campaign also has some awesome moments. Ekaterin is awesome.

I don't know titles and don't want to describe plots in case of spoilers. I will try to remember to research and check back in with titles in a few days.

Ok I looked up my favorite Miles title before sleep. It's The Warrior's Apprentice.

I looked up my favorite Cordelia title too. It's Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen because of the relationship anarchy.

I too love A Civil Campaign and I must have read that book half a dozen times, even more. The dinner party from hell! If I am feeling low I just reread that chapter and it never fails to cheer me up. .And the whole butterbugs saga. Priceless.
Memory is awesome too,I tend to not reread it so much as Civil Campaign, because I really feel Miles frustration and then humiliation, and it hurts. These characters have become real to their fans.We suffer and triumph with them all. I couldnt bring myself to read Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen for ages after it was published ,because I was still grieving over the death of the Butcher of Komarr.

I came to the series through the Cordelia's Honor omnibus, and I guess that is the one I have reread most. But I love them all, and tend to read the complete series in order every year or so. (I do sometimes skip the tangential books like Dreamweaver's Dilemma and Ethan of Athos.)

Cordelia's absolute integrity really chimes for me.

A civil campaign was the first Vorkosigan book I read and it's still my favourite! So many hilarious set-pieces; the Vorbretten and Lady Dona plots; the butter bugs - it never fails to entertain.

I've read through the entire series, no rereads yet. But the time may be right to begin the reread - I have no idea which is my favorite, but I'll confess I'm most partial to Miles...

Forgot to mention that beside Barryar, I'm very fond of Cetaganda--love the intrigue and court politics and manners.

I like the series as a whole a lot more than I like any individual book. If I need to pick one - probably Cetaganda but that has more to do with it being the first book from the series I ever read than anything else I suspect.

Mine is The Vor Game, mainly as it was the first one I ever read. I well remember the disconnect between the advert for the book in another Baen book I read that made it sound like proper testosterone-addled MilSF and the thoughtful and good-humoured book I happened to be reading.
Real love blossomed when Miles found out that the dead body he had found in a drainage culvert was going to eat some cakes he had been sent from home that he had hidden there, and essentially died of homesickness by way of misadventure. You don't get anything that human in, for instance, John Ringo.

I've always had a soft spot for Captain Vorpatril's Alliance, as well as A Civil Campaign.

I spent most of the series wanting to smack Miles up side the head. I like Ivan's tale far more. And of course, Cordelia's.
