Hi stitchers,
I would like to pick the collection stitching brain. I have this kit, and I have finished the cross stitch part. I am supposed to attached this golden cord across the cat's neck. I could just leave it off, but I think it really adds something. The cord is kind of thick, so if I want it to go through a hole in the fabric, I would need a rather large-eyed needle, larger than anything I have. Is that the way to go? I'm not sure how easy it will be to get this cord through even a larger needle. Don't know if I can get such a needle though the bead either, though the hole in the bead is rather large as beads go.
Is there a place to get such a needle? I live in the middle of nowhere Ohio, so Michael's is about the only place I can get to physically. Maybe somewhere in Columbus? That's a two hour drive.
If I can get the cord through the fabric somehow, I think the attaching part with the blue stiches and securing it on the back will be easy enough. Any advice you have would be appreciated. I am thinking that buying a larger needle is the way to go.
Its suppose to look like this:

Here is what I have (cord and the 10 count aida fabric for size):

Maybe a small crochet hook would work?

How about the kind of needle you use for finishing off the ends in knitting. I have a couple with very large eyes to take larger yarn. Michael's should have some of those in the knitting section.

No advice in the pattern? Maybe in the list of supplies? Lori (thormton37814) will have some good advice I'm sure.

I agree with >3 NorthernStar: ; a yarn needle is probably what you need and Michael's should have it (or a Joann Fabrics, if you have one nearby). I'd take the cord and the bead in with me to make sure the cord will fit through the needle eye and that the needle can fit through the bead. Good luck!

Yeah, no help in the instructions! I'll look for a yarn needle when next I visit Michael's. I have an outing planned for this weekend. Thanks for the tip on where to look for it. I will post a picture when I am done. Then on to the hyacinth macaw project.

When I first read the message, I thought you were looking for finishing cord around the edges, and I was going to refer you to a FlossTube video or two I added to a Word document for quick reference. I'm not really sure, and the people I know who would be able to make a suggestion are all at Nashville Needlework Market this week. If you haven't figured it out by mid-week next week, I can ask some of them.

I did get a yarn needle. Thanks for the suggestion! I would not have found it if I didn't know it existed. It was a struggle to get the cord through the fabric, but I am happy with how it came out. Here is the full project and a detail of the cord region.
This project took me most of last year, with significant breaks for mental health issues. It was not as relaxing using a wool/yarn like thread instead of the cotton floss I am used to.
