When I saw the June 2023 issue of “Just CrossStitch” I knew I wanted to stitch the cover pattern, "Good Vibes Only" by Kathleen Berlew. I love the beachy design and the positive message. This is the first project I've done without a kit.

Nice! And congratulations on "graduating" to a project without a kit. I hope you have a good way to organize your thread. It's been ages since I did cross-stitch but no matter how much thread I had, when I started a new project I always needed new colors.

>2 lauralkeet: Thank you. I only bought enough thread to complete the project. I'll have to come up with an organization system in the future.

Congrats on trying your first, non-kit based project. It's really fun.
For my cross-stitch thread, I found a great clear plastic organization box at Dollarama. It's 3 tiers high and divided into 16 compartments on each level. Probably intended for fishing tackle but it works great for putting my bobbins of thread into.
There's an embroidery account I follow and they use wooden clothespins for their threads, which is aesthetically pleasing but probably not what I'd ever do. I just have the cardboard DMC bobbins that I picked up from Michaels and they work great for me.

That's really looking good. I think when I used to do cross stitch, I had a plastic box also. I think mine was only 1 level but I think it had more than 16 compartments. I think all the craft stores carry something like that.
