Can. Anyone recommend a good SF book where people on earth are really living in a simulation?

It's a spoiler, but Children of Memory by Adrian Tchaikovsky is an excellent one. Though it's not set on Earth.

Hiding the title as it is a major reveal that it is a simulation. Restoration Game by Ken MacLeod. The story gives a very realistic view of a city where there is political turmoil and violence.
6Petroglyph
Keith Laumer's short story Goobereality.

>3 ScoLgo: Thanks. I’ve read Sea of Tranquility and really liked it, but it’s more of a time travel book I’m mire looking for a computer simulation theory themed fiction novel.

Permutation City is a pretty good one, and one of the older ones that uses computers - though it doesn't have "we're living in a simulation" as a big reveal, so much as exploring how that might have come to be.

I thought of Permutation City as well but I'm not sure it's quite what the OP is after. I remember reading some short fiction dealing with the simulation hypothesis but can't remember titles or authors.

Simulacron 3 by Daniel F. Galouye is an early one, from 1964.

>11 dukedom_enough: I’m being a bit fussy. I’m looking for one written after tech invented virtual reality 😉

Looking at the tag "simulation theory" also suggests The Anomaly by Hervé Le Tellier -- and suggests relevant tagmashes that bring up far more titles.

Another spoiler: Cloud Cuckoo Land includes a major plot with simulated reality unknown to the inhabitants (or reader).

>1 kjuliff: I would prefer you should for sure go with, 'Foundation' by Issac Asimov !
It is a genuinely must read if you are into science fiction!!

>17 spaceowl: I also really enjoyed Darwinia. Did not expect that sharp turn it took well into the book.

I thought Harkaway's Gnomon was the best book using this notion that I had read in a very long while.
