Reading_fox's occasional reading updates

Rather than dedicate this to a specific year it will just be odd summaries as and when I remember/have time and if it ever gets too long I'll continue it to a new one.

Started the year well, the affair and record of a spaceborn few rereads in a day each - and I still managed a few more hours of Baldur's Gate3 on PC. The Affair is just typical Reacher, you either like him or don't and this is no worse than any of the others. Record, is still amazing I find it incredibly moving and what SF should be. There's almost no action at all, but very clever commentary on current affairs and politics set in a clever universe.

Back to work tomorrow, so far less time to read.

Yup, the Reacher books are pretty consistent - you know what you'll get and if you like it, it's almost a comfort read.

I think one undated thread is a great idea. There will be less pressure, and you just post your updates when you can.

Happy reading!

Really really occasional. I had utterly intended to visit this more frequently, but life and reading got in the way.

Flitting through to say I've finally finished song of the mysteries the conclusion to the very epic Wars of Light and Shadow. 50 years of writing, for 11 books! It's been a long wait but it is totally worth it. I'm not sure I'd ever re-read the whole thing, but it's very very impressive. Very dense takes a lot of concentration, but amazing characters amazing deeds and an amazing world to do them in.

Other things - finished Jacka's Versus, and tried the new one, all very good urban fantasy. Fasper FFordes' Red Side Story also worth the wait, and few crime/dramas and plenty of ERs, none all that special.

>5 reading_fox: Er, ahem, does the touchstone in the last paragraph point to the right book?

>6 hfglen: thanks it does now!

>7 clamairy: I generally re-read from a couple back when the latest comes out, so I've read most of them 2-3 times, and always get something new out of it, appreciating past details being picked up again in the later books.

>5 reading_fox: Glad you got to the end of the series. I'm still only partway through and keep meaning to get back to it at some point. It's just so daunting though.

>5 reading_fox: 11 books! I accidentally skipped books 7 and 8 and then read book 9, I need to get caught up sometime. Glad you enjoy them so much. The characters and the world and the premise were really exciting when the first book came out.
