The next selection I will be reading is a 100-page essay entitled "On Murder Considered as One of the Fine Arts." Now I'm looking forward to reading the essay, where before I was more or less eyeing it as a mountain I needed to climb.

I have never read De Quincey, so I am happy for you. David Morrell wrote three novels in the series. I haven't read the others, but in this one the villain makes great use of De Quincey's writings to torment him, including recreating the Ratcliffe Highway murders. You might enjoy it.
