Her excellent taste in books, her willingness to share her love and enthusiasm for books with us, and her kind responses on our threads made her much loved by many. In the years that I have known her here at LT, she has left an indelible impression on me. And the fact that five years after her death I still think of her only underlines this.
That year, 34 participants managed to strike off 360 of the 641 books on her Hope to read soon collection . 2023 saw more books read from the list by 35 participants, so that the currently read status stands at 371/641.
That leaves 270 unread books, as well as 371 books read by at least one Club Read member, from which to choose for your 2024 reading.
Post which book you have read as you read it, as well as any comment you wish to make. The list will be updated as we go.

Thanks so much to Monica/Trifolia for starting up this thread, and for sharing all her work. To quote her again: I'm pretty sure Rebecca would have applauded any book activity and I'm also pretty sure if there's one way we can pay tribute to Rebecca, it's through us reading the list she had wanted to read. I hope you'll join me and read at least one book and preferably more. I will also invite her friends in other groups she actively participated in (75ers and Reading Globally) to join us. Because one thing you can be sure of: Rebecca had exceptionally good taste and read a wide variety of books, so there is probably something for everyone.

Okay, I've just requested Beroul's The Romance of Tristan on ILL. I've probably read it before in all my Arthurian stuff, but this will make it official.

Just checked my bookshelf. The edition I have is the one by Bedier, so that's the one I've read.

Thank you for carrying on this tradition. I will recommit to The Abyssinian, and then there are one or two others which I would like to acquire and read.

Thank you for bringing this back to our attention. I slacked off a bit in 2023, but am determined to read more from this list this year. I am about half-way through There Once Was a World (No. 165); it is almost encyclopedic in its information about life in a Jewish Shtetl, and yet it makes fascinating reading. I am eager to get back to it.

I just ordered a copy of #271 Mama Leone and will commit to reading it as well. Thanks!

Thanks for continuing this.
I have requested from the library #421. Pramoedya Ananta Toer. Footsteps and should get it later this week.
Later this year I will read the other book by Pramoedya Ananta Toer, #422 House of Glass
I did read the listed Ian Rankin books (#429-431) in the last months, but others have read them as well.
I still keep my entry at the first thread updated at https://www.librarything.com/topic/337945#7696923 and now have read 50 of Rebecca's TBR

Checking through again:
96. Chekhov, Anton. A Journey to the End of the Russian Empire — I'm not certain, since they aren't combined on LT, but I think this must be the same book as Sakhalin Island, which I read last year. Both seem to contain Chekhov's account of the journey across Siberia and his notes on the island itself.

Finished #421. Pramoedya Ananta Toer. Footsteps.
It is the third book in the The Buru Quartet, where we follow Minke, the son of a Javanese regent. The first two books were about his younger years at end of the 19th century. Now the new century has started and Minke tries to find a meaningful way in life. He becomes a reporter and starts a paper. When he starts an organisation to help the locals, the Dutch colonial rulers are not amused.

I am Dutch, and have an intrest in our colonial past. Most books I have read about the Dutch East Indies were written in Dutch by Dutch writers. Only a few of them had an eye for the hardships of the natives.
These books are from the viewpoint of the other side and very enlightning.

Sad that there hasn't been any activity here most of this year. Sadder still that the last post was from another departed member, Anita.
I read Stoner in 2024 and still plan to read Cochise for this memorial reading project. That will carry over into 2025, as will the last few sections of There Once Was a World.

Apologies for not adding those other two earlier. I was away during that time period and obviously didn't catch them when I came home.
