This looks like it’ll be one of the main books to keep an eye on in 2024. While most of the brief discussion so far has happened on the Upcoming Fine Press Books thread, felt it would be good to have a dedicated post, especially as more updates are shared in future.

Yes, this edition merits its own thread. I'm confused, though, as to why you included 'Poe' in the thread title.

>2 ultrarightist: I clearly made a mistake with the author…lol

Would be happy for an admin to correct.

This is why I don’t make threads, I’m always nervous about messing up the title for everyone to see.

This edition sold out fast.

An update on the edition. All copies will be printed on handmade paper, most on Barcham Green Hayle. I've no doubt this will be the finest edition of The Dunwich Horror published to date.

>6 ultrarightist: It’s difficult to go wrong with a HM publication as Rollin does such exceptional work. The items I own are nearly impossible to fault. While this particular edition isn’t really for me as it doesn’t fit my collecting tastes, I do think it looks superb and will be an unparalleled edition of the work.

>6 ultrarightist: Took a while to follow this, but the gist is all copies were originally to be printed on handmade BG Hayle, but there wasn’t enough. Two will be printed on handmade FJ Head, and the other 48 on BG Hayle as originally planned.

>8 What_What:

48 of the numbered copies and four of the H.C. are printed on Hayle; two of the numbered and one H.C. on F.J. Head, and one H.C. on Guarro.

>9 ultrarightist: Yes thank you, I don't think you corrected me as much as expanded on what I said. I should've mentioned I was only referring to the copies that will be up for sale, but you have the complete description.

I have three editions of HM's The Shadow Over Innsmouth -- Limited, Batrachian, and Studio edition in a clasp case -- and they're all beautiful.

If anyone decides to sell along their copy of HM's The Dunwich Horror, I'd be a grateful buyer.

I am excited to have my copy on the way, however a warning to other US buyers - if you receive the invoice in USD and attempt to pay that amount via PayPal, they will invoice you for additional funds. Apparently the USD amount they put on invoices did not equal the actual cost of the book in Canadian money.

I suspect they used Google to make the conversion from their cost to USD, and put that amount in the invoice. When they receive the payment and deposit it, the PayPal conversion rate is awful, and they end up short.

If they need a certain CAD amount, it’s best to invoice using that currency, and let the buyer pay the fees.

This is sold out, right? The website is a bit confusing.

>14 howtoeatrat: it was fully reserved.

If I understand correctly, though, reservations were not a commitment to buy and copies may still become available if any collectors chose not to keep their order now that full publication details have been released and payment is due.

>12 NathanOv: I understand you paid in USD but did you select for HM to receive the funds in USD or CAD? PayPal defaults to a conversion to CAD but if you change that to HM receiving the funds in USD, then what you send should be what arrives.

>16 ChampagneSVP: I sent the amount in USD as specified via the invoice. If they needed the buyers to do anything unusual with the currency settings, it should have been clearly stated.

Was it an actual PayPal invoice, or was it an invoice that said send payment via PayPal? I guess it doesn’t matter anymore.

>17 NathanOv: You didn’t answer the question so I assume you opted for the recipient to receive the funds in CAD vs USD. It wasn’t some obscure setting I had to go to when I sent my payment. I received an invoice in USD. I went to PayPal, they asked for four pieces of info: I typed the recipient email, typed the amount in USD, and in the drop-down where I could select which currency for the funds to arrive in, chose USD, then selected my bank account and hit send. Seems strange for a buyer to receive an invoice requesting USD but then send the funds in a manner that the recipient doesn’t receive USD. Why would someone ask for USD if they wanted to receive CAD?

>19 ChampagneSVP: I can’t speak for NathanOv but my invoice was quoted in CAD

I received a HM invoice, not a PayPal invoice. When I entered the email address for payment, it automatically defaulted to CAD, with the conversion from USD to CAD displayed. What wasn't obvious to me was changing the recipient currency to USD. I wasn't aware that you could override the default setting. Once that was done, only one input is displayed: USD. The USD to CAD conversion is no longer displayed.

>19 ChampagneSVP: I was simply posting a heads up for other buyers, but I did answer you and said I used, apparently, the default method.

Like others have said, it's not clear in the checkout that you can change the setting, and we were not asked to by the seller. I'm glad they seem to have fixed the discrepancy on subsequent invoices.

>20 DMulvee: I’d assume that’s cause you’re not in the USA.

For those who haven’t paid, there’s a menu on the main payment page where, on the line below where you enter the amount you’re sending, you choose the currency for the recipient to receive.

Payment woes aside, the edition looks spectacular and I’m quite looking forward to my copy’s arrival.
