There are numerous occasions for the Islamic religion that occur in June, so in honoring other people around the world, our gardens this month are ISLAMIC GARDENS.

The underlying theme of the Islamic garden is the concept of the chahar-bagh or four-fold garden. Classically, the chahar-bagh is constructed around a central pool or fountain, with four streams owing from it, representing the four main elements of life. The garden is divided into four quadrants by water channels or walkways, with a fountain at the centre—hence the 'charbagh'. The 'charbagh' signifies the four rivers in Allah's Gardens of Paradise according to the Quran: the rivers of water, wine, milk and honey.
Charbagh is a Persian-style garden layout, in which the main building is put at the center of a quadrilateral garden, divided by walkways or flowing water into four smaller parts. Char Bagh holds significant importance in Islamic architecture as a symbol of paradise. The style was brought to India by Mughals. Humayun's tomb and Taj Mahal in India are the most famous examples of this style.

My sincere apologies for the extended delay in posting this thread. I was not in the right frame of mind and spirit to do it.
My sister-in-law went peacefully in her sleep 2 weeks ago and with traveling and family gatherings and special services/events in her honor, I was emotionally exhausted. The only bright spot was that I got to see all my grandchildren and I actually got a picture of them all together.

I thank you all for your sympathy and support, it was truly helpful.

That is a lovely theme, Chèli, thank you so much for taking the time and trouble when you have so much else on your plate.
And thank you for sharing the photo of your lovely grandkids! I hope there will be more happy occasions for family reunions when they grow up and marry.

What a beautiful theme. I love the geometric shapes and perfect symmetry of the Islamic gardens.
I mentioned on the May thread, but I have read my first ROOT of June (#28 for the year) and added it to my own ticker. Just putting it here to keep myself right :)

What a beautiful photo of your grandchildren, Chèli! It's nice to have solace in family when going through a difficult time.
I love your theme for this month. I visited the Alhambra many decades ago and still have wonderful memories of these incredibly beautiful and ingenious gardens. I also had the opportunity to see the Menara Garden in Marrakech, with its grandiose pool. Water is so important in these countries! Happy June!

I don't know where my mind was, (probably packing my library) but I forgot to star this thread, but I found it and starred it today. I had a good reading month in June. I have 12 ROOTS for June. No tickers updated.
I read 11 and had 1 that I Pearled Ruled and got off my shelves. That is one book I did not pack to take to the new house! I don't think it was a bad book, it just wasn't catching me at this moment in time, so I ditched it.
Nonfiction: Democracy Awakening: Notes on the State of America by Heather Cox Richardson
D-Day Girls: The Spies Who Armed the Resistance, Sabotaged the Nazis, and Helped Win World War II by Sarah Rose
Last Palace: Europe's Turbulent Century in Five Lives and One Legendary House by Norman Eisen
Fiction: Beige Man by Helene Tursten
Cats of the Louvre by Taiyo Matsumoto - graphic novel
Last Animal by Ramona Ausubel
Skin of the Sea by Natasha Bowen
Recorded Books: Known World by Edward P. Jones
City of Dragons by Kelli Stanley
Music Shop by Rachel Joyce
Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessey by Rachel Joyce

i have 7 books marked readforjulia. Four have been completed; three are earmarked for july/august.
when i click on the tag- neither my name as participant of tag, nor the books appear. it has been over 24 hours since i corrected my original mis-spelled tag; still they do not appear.

>33 kac522: >34 EGBERTINA: Something weird is going on with that tag. I read my book and tagged it back in February, and it never showed up when I tried a tag search. In fact, I got no hits at all. Trying again today for the first time in a long while, I see that it does get results, but only the 23 that you mention, and my book does show up now. I wonder if there's some kind of long delay with the updates for this tag.
