With record heat enveloping many areas, what better way to cool off than in a garden, especially a WATER GARDEN.

Water gardening is gardening that is concerned with growing plants adapted to lakes, rivers and ponds, often specifically to their shallow margins. Although water gardens can be almost any size or depth, they are often small and relatively shallow, perhaps less than twenty inches (50 cm) in depth. This is because most aquatic plants are depth sensitive and require a specific water depth in order to thrive; this can be helped by planting them in baskets raised off the bottom. A water garden may include a bog garden for plants that enjoy a waterlogged soil. Sometimes their primary purpose is to grow a particular species or group of aquatic plants, for example water lilies. Water gardens bring soothing sounds and distinctive plants to the garden.

I finished reading Time to Depart by Lindsey Davis. As usual I enjoyed reading this entry in the Marcus Didius Falco series. I also managed to learn something about the ancient city of Rome and ended up with questions about what the author means when telling us that the policemen of Rome wore stout boots. What exactly were Roman boots like? This is something that I will have to ask Lindsey Davis about it when she does her next read aloud in August.
25MissWatson
I have reached my goal with a re-read of Das doppelte Lottchen, to mark the 50th anniversary of Erich Kästner's death. And I also finished another book yesterday, adding my first to the group's total.

I read a total of 3 ROOTs this month, which makes 16 for the year. I'm not going to be able to finish any more before the end of the month. My personal ticker has been updated.
