Anybody interested? Perhaps 6 books per year (one every other month), it would take us a little over 3 years to cover the Rougon-Macquart series.

>1 Tess_W: Probably interested, but I have to see how Real Life intervenes. I'm really buried right now and for the next couple or three months possibly as well. Would we be taking these in order?

>2 CurrerBell: We would take these in the order in which Zola recommended their reading, which isn't exactly in order of publication. We are thinking 1st read begins Sept 1 and 2nd read begins Nov. 1 Would that work for you? So far I have 3 solid commitments, and 3 who are mid cycle so would join in when we catch up to them, but will comment, to the best of the memories, until then.

I'm in, assuming we're doing one book every two months. That's definitely manageable. Do you have a list of "the order in which Zola recommended their reading"?

Although I have the Delphi Classics edition of the complete Zola on Kindle, I've got several already (none yet read) in Oxford World Classics editions, which I think has the entire Rougon-Macquart. I plan on using Oxford because of this edition's good endnoting. I also have several en français and may give one or more of them a stab after I've first read the translations.

Mike: Here is all you need to know: Zola group read begins in September here: https://www.librarything.com/ngroups/24460

We are reading in the order that Zola himself suggested.

Not too late to join us! Book 1: The Fortune of the Rougons.

>6 Tess_W: I just started. Can't find my copy of the Oxford World Classics, so I'm using the Delphi Complete Zola on Kindle, at least until I can get some of my clutter cleared up. I've finished through the first chapter so far (and for some reason it sort of reminds me of Balzac's Les Chouans with its countryside militia), but we'll see what happens as I proceed. I do have La Fortune des Rougons where I can probably put my hands on its right away, but I'd rather take it easy with Zola and go en anglais for the time being.
