2025 Hints

Someone on FB asked posted an exchange with FS about whether they were ever going to do The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, and received the following reply:

“Whilst I am unable to offer any confirmation of future publications that haven't been announced yet. I can say that if you keep an eye out for our 2025 New Year announcements, you may find a book on the list that might be of interest to you!”

Even though I have the Books Illustrated version, I didn’t love the illustrator they used, so I’d be very excited to see what Folio does, as this is one of my favorite books.

That’s exciting (possible) news! I, too, didn’t connect with the illustrations in the Books Illustrated version, and am excited to see what Folio do with it.

I would love this to be an SE, though, not a LE.

Giovanni’s Room was also confirmed for 2025.

Probably a new King? Did the 3 first came once a year?

>6 assemblyman: Really!! That’s awesome – I’ve been suggesting it to FS (alongside other LGBTQ+ works) in every survey. Where have they mentioned it?

>8 BorisG: They sent an email out celebrating black authors for black history month and included that announcement. It was as below:

Giovanni’s Room, coming in 2025

Last year, we asked which Black authors you’d most like to see Folio publish, and one of the most requested was James Baldwin. We’re thrilled to announce that Giovanni’s Room will be receiving the Folio treatment in 2025. Baldwin’s powerful exploration of identity, love and societal constraints remains a vital part of literary history.

Stay tuned for more details …

>7 David_Mauduit: The Shining came out in 2015, Misery in 2021 and Pet Sematary in 2023. If I were a gambling man, I'd assume a new volume in 2025, but there hasn't been word yet.

Lots to look forward to! They've also announced the continuation of McCarthy's Border Trilogy with the same artist, so The Crossing should be released in 2025 and Cities of the Plain after that.

>10 HonorWulf: I'm never quite sure if pop media influence their decisions or not (coulda bet on Dune being continued but it took them well after two movies to get the next book out there), but there's a new It TV show (Welcome to Derry) coming out on HBO in 2025.

Adding to 2025 and beyond, the latest Folio email and link to the Chrestomanci series confirms the full complement (seven six volumes), for completion by 2027.

Edit: as per >14 CabbageMoth: & >15 HonorWulf:

>13 FitzJames: Should be only 6 volumes I think, as they've already published the short stories within the first two volumes.

>14 CabbageMoth: Yep, the short stories are being incorporated into the main books. Here's the publishing schedule from the Folio website:

Book 1: Charmed Life
Book 2: The Magicians of Caprona
Book 3: Witch Week
Book 4: The Lives of Christopher Chant (coming 2025)
Book 5: Conrad's Fate (coming 2026)
Book 6: Pinhoe Egg (coming 2027)

Thank you! I happily stand corrected; I had no idea the short stories had been so incorporated already.

>16 FitzJames: Folio is saving everyone the expense of an entire book :)

Not a hint, just speculation on my part, and knowing how FS loves to commemorate anniversaries, with 2025 being the 250th anniversary of the birth of Jane Austen, I can imagine FS producing something in honor of her.
