Welcome to the CoverCAT planning thread. This challenge is based on each month's host choosing an item to be found on the book's cover. Ideas would be a cat, a cup of tea, a park or park-like setting, a crown, etc. Nothing is off limits, no suggestions of reading genre, just an item found on the cover. Hopefully nothing as generic as a man or a woman, but no rules on what is chosen for your month's cover art. I believe this would be best ran like RandomKIT -, where you sign up for a month, but have until that month's thread is posted (usually on the 15th of the previous month). I will start off myself with January.
January - lowelibrary - cover contains something involved in a tea party
February - pamelad - a tree on the cover
March - Tess_W - farm animals on the cover
April - VivienneR - cover shows a road
May - LadyoftheLodge - more than two elements/objects on the cover
June - christina_reads - something with wheels on the cover
July - DeltaQueen50 - a fruit pictured on the cover
August - susanna.fraser - cover image includes a photograph
September - sallylou61 - dogs and/or cats on the cover
October - JayneCM - something on the cover that will fit in your pocket.
November - majkia - celestial objects on the cover
December - Robertgreaves - something you would like for a Christmas (or equivalent gift-giving occasion in your tradition) present on the cover

Could I please have July.
My only concern with not naming the item now is that by the time my month comes up, someone may have already used the item I am planning on.

I would like February please.
>2 DeltaQueen50: I would also be happy to name the item now.
>1 lowelibrary: Happy to help with the wiki.

I'm not sure whether or not I would like to host a month. However, I prefer naming the item at the time one volunteers for a month (i.e. now).
7LadyoftheLodge
I will take May, with "more than two elements/objects on the cover."

>7 LadyoftheLodge: I requested February in >3 pamelad:.
9LadyoftheLodge
>8 pamelad: Okay, I see, sorry about that. The list is not updated yet. Thanks, edited.
10LadyoftheLodge
>1 lowelibrary: I will send the wiki page instructions to your messages. Happy to help!
11susanna.fraser
I will take August with "cover image includes a photograph."
12lowelibrary
OK since everyone prefers to name the topic now please name your preferred topics >2 DeltaQueen50: , >3 pamelad:, and >6 VivienneR:
Sorry, I can not access the computer while I am at work but I have updated the list in >1 lowelibrary:
Thank you >10 LadyoftheLodge: for the wiki instructions I got them and will set up the wiki once the categories are set.
I will wait and pick my topic once everyone else is done. I have several in mind.

My topic in July will be a fruit pictured on the cover.

I'd be happy to take June for "something with wheels" on the cover. Cars, bikes, wheelbarrows, roller skates...also spinning wheels, Ferris wheels, etc.
18sallylou61
I would like September with Dog(s) and/or Cat(s) or both on the cover.

>1 lowelibrary: Updated as of here.
We are doing great - only 3 months left October, November, and December.

Could I have December with the theme something you would like as a Christmas (or equivalent gift-giving occasion in your tradition) present?
21lowelibrary
>20 Robertgreaves: added.
22LibraryCin
Have to admit, I'm very much looking forward to September. :-) (This is probably not a surprise to most!)
24lowelibrary
>23 JayneCM: We have October and November left and what would you like on the cover?
25LadyoftheLodge
>22 LibraryCin: I agree, as do my cats!
26majkia
I'll take November. Celestial objects on the cover. Rainbows, stars, sun, moon, clouds even.
28DeltaQueen50
I've been having such fun sorting through my books both for the CoverCat and the ColorCat - it's like a treasure hunt!
29VivienneR
>28 DeltaQueen50: Same for me! Do you mark your choices in your catalogue? I usually keep a list but often find the eventual choice is not one of the list.
30DeltaQueen50
>29 VivienneR: I keep a separate list and now I am in the process of figuring out what my final categories are going to be and what are some of the books that I will be reading for various categories and challenges next year. I think I may be posting my 2025 thread shortly. But I don't want to wish the year away so trying to slow down a little.
31LadyoftheLodge
>30 DeltaQueen50: Agree! I am anxious to post my own thread but trying to be patient.
32lowelibrary
Thank you everyone. We have all months hosted and the wiki is up. https://wiki.librarything.com/index.php/CoverCAT_2025#2025_CoverCAT
As stated I waited until everyone else chose their categories so January's topic is cover contains something involved in a tea party.

>30 DeltaQueen50: & >31 LadyoftheLodge: My 2025 thread will be very simple so I'm not in any hurry to plan it. I probably won't post it until late December but I can't resist searching for books to fit the CATs, KITs, and Bingo.
34LadyoftheLodge
>33 VivienneR: Part of the fun is searching for the right books for each month and challenge. However, as others mentioned, I usually end up changing my mind by the time the challenges came along.
35VivienneR
>34 LadyoftheLodge: I spend a lot of time searching for the right book but I don't mind if I come up empty-handed because I often come across a book that has been completely forgotten. It's like finding treasure.
36Robertgreaves
>34 LadyoftheLodge: I look for books each month as the host for the next month posts the thread and then mention a possibility but really that's just to mark the thread. I often choose something completely different when I make my monthly selection of 12 books in the last few days of the month and even then I feel free to ignore them if I fancy something else.
37lowelibrary
>36 Robertgreaves: I also tend to wait until the next month's thread is posted. Changing my mind on what I am reading is why I rarely post my choice for that month until after I have finished the book.
38VivienneR
>36 Robertgreaves: & >37 lowelibrary: I always plan to wait until the next month's post is up but I just don't have that kind of patience. :) My favourite is RandomKIT because I'm obliged to wait and watch the calendar for the 15th to roll around. I was hoping CoverCAT would work the same way - topics posted monthly - but I guess we all have preferences. Meanwhile I'm busy examining covers.
39Tess_W
>37 lowelibrary: Yes, I have noticed that what I initially post that I'm going to read is often not what I end up reading!
40lowelibrary
The new year will kick off this weekend. I will be posting the January CoverCAT
41LibraryCin
>40 lowelibrary: Shoot! I think I have a January one to prepare for and forgot! I had a list somewhere for which ones I signed up for and was planning to enter them into my calendar and hadn't done that yet. Now I can't find the list. I'll have to start my list over and look up each of the CATs and KITs to see what I signed up for and when! Ugh!
ETA: I found my list. Whew! And I do have one for January that I need to get on! Where did the time go!? Anyway, thanks for the reminder.

>40 lowelibrary: >41 LibraryCin: Choosing books for 2025 already? I can't quite believe it.
43mnleona
I started Eggs in a Casket by Laura Childs but when I saw the list, I put it aside until January.
44LibraryCin
>42 Robertgreaves: I know, right!? That's why I forgot!
45lowelibrary
>41 LibraryCin: You are welcome.
>42 Robertgreaves:, >44 LibraryCin: It seems the older I get, the faster the year goes
>43 mnleona: That cover looks perfect.

I have added the wiki to >1 lowelibrary: to make it easy for everyone to find.
