Asking For A Friend ( giggles)

So, the following message was sent to me- several months back- in hopes that I was able to assist. Sadly, I was having internet issues at that time in addition to other issues. I checked back and this person says it has not resolved.

I will post here - and then - perhaps the user will be able to jump in and explain any questions:

Here is the beginning of the exchange: I read https://www.librarything.com/work/15935856/book/206596213 in 2021. It appears in "My Library". It does not appear in My personal list of books read in 2021, even though the dates are in the date field. (Go to Charts & Graphs, then go to lists under Common Knowledge and using the drop down list change it to 2021). Yet this book appears on the list "Books Read in 2021" with my name. ( A list that anyone can add to) https://www.librarything.com/work/10611699 When I click on that book (in the URL above) from the list "Books Read in 2021" it does not show as in my library (it shows I need to add it and appears with a different cover than the one I chose.) , so of course, I have lost my tags etc. How can I get it to appear under my individual list for 2021 as read? I am sorry, I know this is complicated, I tried my best to explain the issue.

I actually have two books that do not appear in two different years, so probably the same issue.

This might be due to a wrong combination that has happened – the first work number you give is meant to be for 2-in-1 editions that contain a bonus short story, and I think it wrongly has some editions in there that are the book "The Silent Girl" by itself (this is the second link). I'll do some poking into it and report back in a few minutes.

So I separated a few editions and put them in their right places, this affected about 180 copies including the book number you mentioned.

This link should work to get to the book in its new location:
https://www.librarything.com/work/10611699/book/206596213

I don't know how fast the lists would be to update, whether that change will take effect instantaneously (hopefully it does!).

Thank you so much for sharing the link.

Thanks for your help, Nevov! All of this seems fixed, save the fact that I can still see the book on the original work at https://www.librarything.com/work/15935856/book/206596213 ... looking at that before I mark this as fixed. I'm guessing something is just slow to catch up.

That's nothing to worry about :-) the site will continue to allow an old link to generate a page.

In fact we can force the site to generate any pairing of a work and a book on demand – try this out if you like, by changing the 15935856 part of the link into a different number: 159, or 1593, etc. :-) It only fails if the work number doesn't exist at all.

The key is to look at the book record without any work number:
https://www.librarything.com/work/book/206596213
and then the left side links: Main page, or Work details, etc., these reveal which work the book truly is combined into.

>7 Nevov: I dont know if this needs a new ticket. same patron writes:

Egbertina, Thank you so much. It is fixed. I do have another book I read in 2023 with the same issue. It is https://www.librarything.com/work/10353330/book/207429221. Since this book has multiple stories in it, I suspect there could be another copy that may not have as many and they got combined. truly appreciate your help. Thanks again!

There were a handful of editions in the wrong place but I don't think your friend's book was affected by it this time. I think what has happened here, is the wrong version has been added to the 'Read in 2023' List. If they try adding the 4-in-1 version to the 'Read in 2023' list I think that will solve it. :-)
