Wordpress and LibraryThing widget -> no hamburg stack menu on mobile/cell phone!

Hello there,

We have been using LibraryThing for several years, primarily to display via the LT Widget covers of our latest books on our web page. Recently, we changed our website, and moved to WordPress. Sadly, using the LT Widget causes error messages, which then lead to a loss of the hamburger stack navigation menu for mobiles!

The widget's code is
https://www.librarything.com/widget.php?shareID=w14f32bc1c1a55329ddfcb62f7d3bdc4...

Our web page is at
https://heythroplibrary.co.uk/

WordPress Happiness Engineer suggested moving to Goodreads, as this is supported more closely by WP.

We have added over 3660 books to LT and wouldn't want to lose them, though exporting them to CSV and importing to Goodreads is possible, of course.

Can anyone save the day, and help us with this problems?

Many thanks for considering the above.

With best wishes,
Heythrop Library team member.

>1 heythroplib: I can try poking at this a bit. Can you first please try creating a brand new LibraryThing Widget at https://www.librarything.com/widget, and replacing your old LT Widget on Wordpress? Let me know if you're still seeing issues, and if so exactly which hamburger stack menu you're missing. I'll be happy to take a closer look. (It is a holiday week, so if I don't see any updates by tomorrow I'll be back next week!)

Where ratings get interesting is when you see the range of ratings on a book. Some books have a lot around a certain value. Some have lots at both ends, some are scattered all through the values.

>2 kristilabrie: Thank you, kristilabrie. I have tried this already. Sadly, a "new bit of code" does not fix this problem. The hamburger stack menu isn't working on the Wordpress site at all. There are 2 lines as if on a cell phone/mobile there is a menu, but one cannot click or enlarge on it.

I would be very grateful for your poking at this a bit.

Many thanks,
Clemens, part of the team at Heythrop Library

Okay, thanks! And just to confirm: removing the LibraryThing Widget removes the errors on your page? I'm not seeing any errors on the LT Widget, that I can find. Are you seeing specific errors from the widget that you can share?

These are some errors I'm seeing on your website, right now:

1. At heythroplibrary.co.uk/:1
An import map is added after module script load was triggered.

2. At w3w-autosuggest-public.js?ver=4.0.15:177
Error: WooCommerce is not installed!
at w3w-autosuggest-publ…s?ver=4.0.15:177:19
at w3w-autosuggest-publ…js?ver=4.0.15:525:3

3. At heythroplibrary.co.uk/:1
Uncaught TypeError: Failed to resolve module specifier "wordpress/interactivity". Relative references must start with either "/", "./", or "../".

Sorry, had a busy week. Yes, if I remove LibraryThing Widget from our page, the mobile/cell view works fine, but then the wonderful widget is not displaying our covers.

Whilst I can read the list of errors you present, I have no idea what they mean, or how to fix them.

I can ask WP support again, as it seems that everything looks okay your end.

Let me know what they say at WP - I'm seeing the mobile menu issue you're reporting, so there must be some sort of conflict of code between your new site and LibraryThing's Widget. I'm just not sure what it is, yet.

This is not our widget code causing a problem on the site.
I've tested this by sending back no content from our widget if it is the 'heythroplib' ID. When doing this the hamburger menu still did not work.

Not knowing much about the WP themes that you're using it's hard to know what the actual problem is, but a good starting point is likely this error:
Uncaught TypeError: Failed to resolve module specifier "wordpress/interactivity". Relative references must start with either "/", "./", or "../".

Googling that error immediately brought up similar issues with various WP themes:

Thank you for both of your messages. Sorry for the delay, it's been a busy week here.

Will see what I can do.
