I ordered the Deluxe state. Did anyone on this forum order the Lettered state?

>3 ultrarightist: I’m sure there are lettered rights holders on this forum.

Suntup refers to their “deluxe” state as the numbered edition (just an FYI)…I heavily debated purchasing the numbered Gormenghast but ultimately decided to pass. A decision I’m sure I’ll regret, but can’t buy every book that piques my interest :/

>4 Nightcrawl: I passed too. Had a tinge of regret for a while. But in the end, while the letterpress and multiple accompanying essays would be nice, of all the illustrated editions of Gormenghast (discounting the author's own for a moment), I think I still prefer the original Folio Society edition. There's just something magical about it. While the illustrations for the Suntup are well conceived and superbly executed, they don't really say 'Gormenghast' to me. And although 20 illustrations (including the covers and map?) is a lot for a Suntup title, spread over three volumes it means that each volume will be quite sparsely illustrated.

>5 Levin40: I agree, the original FS is the one I have. I prefer it to all the others and you can pick it up now at a reasonable price as many have picked up the new Gormenghast and want sell this on.

I've seen a few different illustrated versions of these books over the years that I've liked the style of. But I appreciate the Suntup one too, it has a strong "medieval psalter" feel to the art that appeals to me. And the chance to finally get the book in letterpress sealed it for me. I took the fact that a single copy of the numbered had become available when I checked the site (hours after the debut) as a sign I should get it.

>5 Levin40: I agree that the illustrations of the original FS edition are special (I have the edition), but the letterpress and medieval flavor of the illustrations of the Suntup edition as >7 Shadekeep: explained are what swayed me to purchase it.

>7 Shadekeep: Hello, I’ve been watching this forum (and folio devotees) for around four years and have been meaning to contribute many times. I can confirm the copy you’ve acquired would be the one I cancelled - I lost all my senses when the Lettered became available. I’ll need to shift a few volumes to ease the pain but it’s sooo beautiful, I couldn’t resist. The materials! Thank you Paul!

>9 cottonoverwood: Kudos on picking up the Lettered! I'd have gone for it myself if the finances were more amenable to it. And I suspect there were a few cancellations throughout the day as various folks changed tier or reconsidered. It's pretty much inevitable when quantity is low and decision window is brief.

>10 Shadekeep: Too true. I’m fortunate enough to own the three Folio editions. For its art, the original has my heart. McKean’s take is great with his challenge to the ‘obvious’ gothic pallet. Suntup’s medieval angle has likely surprised many of us but I think it’ll prove a great success.

>12 astropi: Thanks. Of course, I’ll certainly try - I’ve benefited from this group’s collective efforts these past handful of years and would be delighted to play my small part.
