... on the assumption that we start seeing a few more new arrivals than usual, during the Goodreads exodus.

"Why some book fans are leaving Amazon-owned Goodreads in wake of the U.S. election:
The StoryGraph saw a surge of new subscribers the week after the election, echoing Bluesky"

Shouldn't this be in the Welcome to LibraryThing! group? https://www.librarything.com/ngroups/8033/Welcome-to-LibraryThing%21

I guess I mistitled it. Bad, bad. :(

No, not "bad". I just thought as it wasn't about a book, and was a welcome post, it would more likely be seen in the other group.

(Is there really a "Goodreads exodus"?)

A lot of people are joining Storygraph right now but getting them to join LT is going to be a hard sell when the app currently isn't available on Android.

It might be more like how some US Democrat voters vow to move to Canada if Trump wins. Only a very small minority eventually go to the trouble, but it makes headlines anyway.

When I fled Goodreads, partly due to its Amazon ownership and partly due to some things I hated about how it works, and came to LT, it was something of a compromise, because LT still has connections with Amazon. For example, other booksellers don’t show up under QuickLinks on the main works pages: “As LibraryThing derives some of its bibliographic data from Amazon, we have to follow their rules.” I don’t know if it’s still true, but Wikipedia says that AbeBooks had an ownership interest at one point in LT, and AbeBooks was subsequently acquired by Amazon.

So I don’t know whether LT is going to be the destination of first choice for Amazon emigrees.

As was pointed out when people started cancelling their Washington Post subscriptions, if you really want to make a statement*, dump your Amazon Prime account and don't buy anything off that site.

*Because that's all it is. Nothing you do will hurt Bezos, either in his ego or his pocketbook.

>7 Charon07: The minority interest that Abe books had in LT, passed on to Amazon, but the original contract was written in such a way that the perks Abe Books got can still only be used by Abe Books.
