Work still in deleted series

When I go to this work: https://www.librarything.com/work/32444105
it shows nothing in the series section. If I click on "add/edit" the lightbox says it is already in the series "Legends & Lattes - Publication Order" (https://www.librarything.com/nseries/354886/Legends-Lattes-Publication-Order) but that series has been deleted.

I could delete the series from the work page myself but it seems to me like the connection should be removed automatically when the series is deleted.

>1 norabelle414: It looks to me as though the deleted publication order series was the original version, but someone decided to create a new chronological order series and delete the old series. That would explain why the 2 short stories aren't included; Pages to Fill (I think) fits between the 2 novels (shortly before Legends & Lattes, but Goblins & Greatcoats is in the same universe but isn't connected to the other books.

Checking series edit on Legends & Lattes shows both series, so deleting the series isn't removing the series link, it just suppresses the information. That would make sense as otherwise the information would be lost when you click on the deleted series.

My gut feeling is to undelete the publication order series, rename the new series as chronological order, and add in the 2 short stories, with Goblins & Greatcoats being in a separate group.

>2 Maddz: I'm not really concerned about this particular case, but I think retaining the series information, including on the work page, of a deleted series defeats the purpose of deleting a series.

That had been like that since the series were converted. That’s why I tend to merge than delete series when possible.

I agree it is a bug (or maybe design oversight).

I want to say this is the design that TPTB want. It's why I clean out a series before I delete it.

I've added the missing titles into the new series, but I'll leave the deleted series alone until people decide what to do about it.

I'm unfamiliar with the series in question, but as general practice I think both series should remain. There are plenty of series in which the publication order and the chronological order differ, most notably The Chronicles of Narnia. It is up to the individual (or sometimes, the order listed on the books' spines) how they are ordered because neither one is technically 'more correct' than the other.

So unless LT introduces a new feature that allows one series to be ordered in different ways, it is my opinion that no one should be deleting a series that is a different acceptable order than the one they wish to use.

>7 GraceCollection: Strictly speaking, the new series does allow ordering by internal chronology or by publication date. However, it doesn't always work well as many older works don't have an OPD recorded.

I agree that both series versions should remain visible. Several of the longer running series I collect have a different internal chronology to the publication order: Elizabeth Peter's Amelia Peabody and Steven Brust's Dragaera series are a case in point.

It looks member elkiedee was working on the series early October.

>7 GraceCollection: This is not about having multiple series in different orders. I'm fine with that. This is about having a deleted series show up on the work page.

>9 norabelle414: The deleted series doesn't show up in Charts & Graphs > Series, from what I can see, for a bit of extra info if that helps.

It looks like from a past bug (Dec 2020, after new series switched on in Jun 2020), this was previously fixed in the top section of work pages, but the lightbox area must've been missed: https://www.librarything.com/topic/326925

(Wrote a bit more here but it's digressions/RSIs so have cropped it and will repost elsewhere sometime. Short version: agree with sentiments that publication order series shouldn't've been deleted unless/until sorting options get an upgrade)

>9 norabelle414: I do agree with you in that regard.

The reason I chimed in with an opinion about the series remaining deleted vs. not is because I noticed there was some uncertainty regarding that.

I didn't chime in about the bug itself because I haven't noticed it on my end, can't offer advice for workarounds, and don't work for LT so cannot fix it.

Verifying this as I think it's a bug.

For developers:
NB: related to another fixed bug - https://www.librarything.com/topic/326925

1. Go to https://www.librarything.com/work/32444105
2. Under "Series and work relationships" section, select to "Add/edit" a series.
3. Open up the first series on that list, "Legends & Lattes - Publication Order" ( https://www.librarything.com/nseries/354886/Legends-Lattes-Publication-Order )

Bug: This is a deleted series and should not be listed in this lightbox. (You can see that the series isn't listed in the actual "Series and work relationships" section.)

>12 kristilabrie: Once we fix this, I agree that I think the Publication Order series should be undeleted, as >2 Maddz: suggests.

Fixed to hide deleted series.

>13 kristilabrie: Deleted series now reinstated. I did add the missing original publication date to Pages to Fill so the chronology/publication switch in the series now works.
