Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson – CONVERSATION TREE PRESS DELUXE LIMITED EDITION M2024

A PICTORIAL REVIEW

No. 2 of 175 copies
52 pen and ink drawings printed letterpress by artist Marc Castelli who signed the book.
Introduction by Dr. Caroline Howitt.
Three essays by the author: “How This Book Came To Be”, “A Gossip on Romance”, and “The Persons of the Tale”.
Handbound by Ludlow Bookbinders.
Quarter bound in black goatskin with solid 10mm thick oak boards, beaten and burnt to look worn, giving it rugged, aged appearance reminiscent of the weather decks of the Hispaniola.
The “black spot,” powerful symbol and a key plot device that significantly influences the course of the story, is represented by a 40mm diameter leather circle set flush into the front board.
Six raised bands on the spine with foil stamping of the title of the book and initials of the author and illustrator.
Map of the island in the book.
Top page edge gilded.
Letterpress-printed gold and brown decorative paper endpapers.
Letterpress-printed on Naturalis 135gsm paper.
Red ribbon page marker.
Head and tail bands.
Text set in two columns.
Black textured cloth slipcase with die-cut circle on front.
36.2x25.6cm.
186 pages
US$695

A simply magnificent (and very heavy) volume!

One of my favourite books on my shelf.

Thanks for the excellent photos. Sad I came to CTP too late to pick up a copy of the standard edition of this as it’s an old favorite.

I live in hope of winning the recent ‘suggest a new title to publish’ survey and bagging a copy as the prize!

I thought that was already over and winners informed, no ?

>4 Ragnaroekk: ahh, might well be. Haven’t seen anything from CTP via email or on their website.

Hopes crushed :(

I see that the book has a few typos.
On the picture of Chapter XXVIII the "T" drop-cap is followed by "THE", should be "HE".
The title of that chapter seems also incorrectly centered.
Appendix I header is followed by ":" while for the other appendix it is not.
Was also mentioned in the video of Ubiquitous Books the mistake on the map.

It still does not make the book less amazing.
