Seeming Site-Wide Search Failures in 'Add Books'

Was recommended to make a new post with a more accurate title; I and a few other users have noticed 'search failure' on all the libraries we try, including but not limited to: Overcat, Library of Congress, University of Oxford, BONUS+ (AUS/NZ), Russian State Library, Toronto Public Library.

Amazon seems to work, at least for me, but not a single library I've tried has worked. They all come up 'the search has failed.'

Hi, I'm having the same problem: search fails in every italian source except Amazon.

>2 lasiepedimore: Fun fact: I had a book where Source was given as:
GBV - Gemeinsamer Bibliotheksverbund / GBV Common Library Network (Göttingen, NI)

Since I didn't like the Göttingen spelling much I tried to add it from somewhere else which failed. Also adding it from GBV failed and I didn't like what Amazon served up, so I ended up adding it manually.

All without noticing that there was something wrong with all the sources except Amazon :-)

Yes Overcat is having some problems since overnight - we are investigating.

Overcat and library add books sources should be working once again.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

I'm having widespread failures across most sources (I think LoC is working), and since my library is pulling from so many different sources, things aren't going well. Requests are either timing out or giving "invalid format," even though they're valid ISBNs.

>7 zacharyleb: Can you give a few examples of the books that are failing? And what sources speficially?

9780393311983, 9780226793603, and 9780140441079 all returned "The data couldn't be read because it isn't in the correct format."
As for sources, I'm not sure exactly which, but the app (I'm doing this with the scanning tool in the app and have had a fantastic time up until now) has a much better time with "common western" books, as opposed to the Turkish ones I'm trying to scan. Sometimes, it shows the name/cover with amazon as the source, but the checkmark doesn't show up on the right, it remains the looping loading animation and eventually gives a "Request Timed Out" error.
(I would also like to give a big shoutout with the app, I'm cataloging a few hundred books for a professor, and it's been a lifesaver.)

>9 zacharyleb: The iOS app or the Android one?

On iOS one: Go to Account and the sources are listed there and tell us which ones you have and in what order.

On the Android one: Same place I suspect but you may want to look around.

Whatever the latest version of iOS is, my complete list is here. It's a bit long, but it helps me get hits on all of the various Turkish books. (Also sorry for the cropping of names, but I think you have enough info to know.)

If you are adding a set of Turkish books, I will move the Amazon.com and LOC and so on under the Turkish sources - I think part of what you are hitting is that the early sources find really bad records -- and never get you to the correct sources...

Other from that - as this seems unrelated to the issue up in >1 GraceCollection:, opening a separate bug report will get you better help :)

>12 AnnieMod: I replied here, because I've scanned 500 books before today without any issues like this, and the books I'm scanning now are no different from ones I've scanned before, so I figured it was related.

edit: I'll let you know what happens next Monday when I go back to scanning.

Marking back as fixed, but >13 zacharyleb: please do let us know how the scanning goes and open up another report if needed! You may want to play around with turning sources on/off to pinpoint the issue better, but we can also tinker with it. Hopefully it's gone better.
