I’ve been eyeing some early 20th letterpress copies illustrated by Arthur Rackham. In particular the Tempest, Midsummer’s Night Dreams and Peer Gynt. However their binding and cover have worn off considerably. Would it be possible to have the rebounded? I have never commissioned a rebind before, and I don’t need it to be a close replica of the original design. Are there any great bookbinders in Canada, preferably Ontario, who are taking private commissions?

The Guild of Book Workers directory lists one person, Arielle VanderSchans: https://ariellesbindery.com/ Her website describes her as an "apprentice bookbinder". She is also the president of the Southwestern Ontario chapter of the Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild: https://www.cbbag.ca/southwesternontario so could probably direct you to others.
You might also try contacting a Special Collection division of any major libraries near you. Some of their conservation staff may do private commissions or could refer you to people who do.

Check out Felton Bookbinding and Don Taylor .

I would strongly recommend Keith Felton and his team. In addition to some beautiful restoration work they also rebound three large heavy volumes for me in a perfect baroque style.

Don Taylor’s custom bindings are also excellent, but the two I have are more “art bindings” rather than a typical rebind.

Alanna at Mad Hatter in British Columbia would likely do a great job. She does much of the binding for Barbarian Press and Greenboathouse Press
