Hortari is a collection of 15 short stories about explorers and seekers you've never heard of. They travelled the world and changed it, but you won't find their achievements in history books. This is their stories, illustrated in watercolours by the author. These endearing characters remind us that we are all defining our own quests, often taking us to unexpected places, whether it be on the other side of the planet or in a remote corner of our backyard.
Marie-Alice Harel is an award-winning French author and illustrator based in Edinburgh, Scotland. She has illustrated books for The Folio Society (eg. The Neverending Story, House of Many Ways, Howl’s Moving Castle), Puffin (Watership Down), Bloomsbury (eg. What You Need to be Warm, The Book of Hopes) and The Royal Mint. She was a Geosciences PhD and researcher before becoming a full time illustrator in 2016.

What a beautiful book and what a great artist, a bargain at £28. I have ordered myself one (not the limited edition unfortunately) plus an additional print from her Etsy store.

Thank you for sharing and the enablement.

You should be known in the annals as Warwick the Enabler..! :)

Also bought Omoiyari from her shop.
And I didn’t realise she had also illustrated the Moving Castle trilogy for FS

There are too many Enablers on this forum but the budget buys are a welcome reprieve.

Some of the illustrations in Omoiyari remind me a little bit of Green Willow by Warwick Goble for some reason.

That's a gorgeous book. I just bought the currently available edition along with Omoiyari. Thanks for the enabling.

My son brought me a copy of hortari from Shakespeare & Co. in Paris on one of his trips. It's beautiful. I like how they tied the printer info into the book. Mine says MÄ Harel 2017 : Printed in Bascahil Pellin's country (Czech Republic)

Thank you as always for your wonderful review. I assume this is letterpress?

>7 astropi: For that price I don't think it's letterpress, but still a very lovely book which I also just bought.

I think Mrs. Harel will be wondering quite a bit how she got that many sales. Etsy shows that 13 copies have been bought in the last 24 hours.

>1 wcarter: Great photographs as usual! Thanks for sharing.

Does anyone get alchemical or masonic vibes? Or am I reading too much into the vague storylines (from what I can make out), an owl atop a compass or the 16-point Vergina Sun?

>9 mr.philistine: It's no Green Snake and the Beautiful Lily but I can see where you're coming from.
