A thread for audiobook chat. Audiobooks are unique from text in that we are dependent on their digital access, their existence, their production, and especially the reader. You can get them from public libraries or purchase them, or access to them, from various sites.
Here is a place to ask questions and share your experiences. This is normally Kate's thread (kjuliff) - our resident audio guru in the past. It was her idea, and I'm creating this on her inspiration. I don't think we have anything else like it here on LT ... or perhaps anywhere with our specific range of readership.
Personally, I'm a big audio listener. I primarily listen during my driving commute (and, when home alone, during my breakfast and morning getting ready). I can't listen without doing something, walking, driving... or eating or whatnot. But it adds a special element to my book world, has me "listening" more while reading text because I've learned different ways a book can read, and expands it my reading.
A few questions for your first visit here:
- Are you an audio listener? When do you listen?
- Where do you get your audiobooks?
- What have you found you’re look for when searching for your next audiobook?

I am also a big audio listener. I probably only read one paper/ebook per month, and the rest are audiobooks.
-I listen when I walk (which reminds me I haven't been walking much lately - November's dreary weather often gets me out of my routine), when I am on the couch playing stupid games on my phone or my husband is watching sports and I only want to half watch.
- I am nearly 100% a Libby audio listener. I have my provincial library service; and my sister, in a neighbour province and I share our library cards so we can have more options. I have in the last year or so starting getting a few books on Chirp, when they are very cheap. I still have a back log of young adult books from the years when Sync had free YA audiobooks in the summers. I haven't needed to look for Audible yet as I'd rather wait for a free book than pay for a book now. I was the same with paper library books, lol.

I always have an audio book going. I began listening to them in the early 2000s when I had a 120 mile a day commute, and still mostly listen when I am driving, but now my commute is only 16 miles round-trip, so it can take me a long time to finish a book. Some of the best books I've read have been audio editions.
I primarily listen to Audible books. I rarely listen to Libby, since I can't finish a book fast enough before it disappears. My current listen is Persuasion. So far, I'm only about 5 chapters in, and it may be one of my first 2025 books.
