Time is running short so I am posting one of my favorite seasonally appropriate (yet secular) poems yet again! I am afraid I will forget if I wait until the 21st.

>1 clamairy: Lovely. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Thanks clam.
You prompted me to search for "winter solstice poems". There's surprisingly few about the solstice itself. (0n at least one of the sites, your poem by Susan Cooper appears attributed to Ursula K. Le Guin.)

>5 haydninvienna: That's odd. I've only ever seen Cooper listed as the author. And you are most welcome.

I love that poem! Susan Cooper's The dark is rising is one of my favourite Christmas reads.

>7 Sakerfalcon: I should add that to my holiday read list! I read it once a couple of decades ago.
9Darth-Heather
>7 Sakerfalcon: same here, I read it every year on the solstice. Which usually leads to a reread of the rest of the set :)

I don't think I've ever gotten round to reading Susan Cooper. But it seems she might deserve better than that from me. Thanks for posting it, clam!

Lovely poem, thanks Clam. I just finished my annual yule reread of Gene Wolfe's short story "La Befana" (the Christmas witch).

Thank you for posting that. Happy holidays to everyone!
>11 Jim53: Interesting, that was the name of the witch in the Tim Allen Santa series (not remembering the exact name) that was on Netflix.

I wish you all well this holiday season. May your days be filled with love and laughter, and balanced with peace and quiet.

>14 MrsLee: Beautifully said. I wish the same to you.

Whether you're a lurker or someone who posts every week here in the Pub, warm wishes for the holiday season over the next week or two. May you receive books - a book to surprise you, a book to teach you, a book to make you laugh and a book to touch your heart.
Let us join hands (figuratively and virtually) and wish each other peace.

Best wishes to everyone whatever you believe or celebrate or don't believe or don't celebrate. Have a great time over the coming days and weeks (and beyond). I am with >16 jillmwo: in wishing you books, many books, many many books.

Sending seasonal best wishes to all - I have been absent for most of the year but still think of all in the Pub often and hope you are all keeping well and may 2025 bring everyone some great reads and many happy memories. Love to all. xx

Happy holidays to everyone at the pub! Health, happiness and peace to all - and many, many, many great books.
