The American Bookbinders Museum

Howdy, hello. I'm starting a thread to post occasional announcements about upcoming events and exhibits at The American Bookbinders Museum in San Francisco.

So far as I can tell this is the only museum dedicated to bookbinding in North America. If you live in California, or you visit San Francisco, it's well worth a visit. Plus, many of their lectures are hosted online so anybody around the world can attend.

📢 I'm pleased to announce that the museum is working with Paul Suntup on an exhibit of Suntup Editions books. 📢

This exhibit is planned for Winter/Spring 2026, and will coincide with CODEX. (If you were on the fence about attending, here's another reason to go!)

Paul is lending the museum 30+ of the finest Suntup books from his own collection – including many of the highest end lettered and roman numeral books. It should be an incredible display of bookbinding, including work from many of the greatest contemporary bookbinders.

More information when exact dates are set, etc.

Here's a link to the museum's website, for easy reference :) And thank you, Griffin! I only wish I lived closer to SF.

The museum is on a small street near the Moscone Convention Center in downtown SF. There’s a big parking garage on Mission Street between 4th and 5th within easy walking distance.

I think that is true.

I'm not in SF, but I've attended some of their events via Zoom. They have some quite interesting lectures.
