It's a series, read it about 2-3 years ago
Some things I remember from the plot (may be from multiple books in the series):
- The girl i believe was in a museum on a school trip when a boy from the magical world finds and talks to her, she is actually magical
- There is a magical school which she attends, the mode of transportation is some sort of teleportation device with (i think) mirrors
- She is adopted and taken in by a couple who essentially are farmers
- At some point the principal's office glass is blown up for some reason (i think by someone who was pretending to be evil)
- She goes to a cave near her house and is abducted in one of the books
- I think that in her room she has a mirror which can talk
- The couple that adopt her had a daughter that passed away
- There is a winged horse that she is able to find that is rare
- This horse responds to her well
- She uses this horse at some point to go back into the human world even though its dangerous for some purpose
- I think they protect a city with a force field
