I'd love to get your help on this one, as it's been driving me crazy trying to find this book again:
Author: unknown
Genre: Fantasy, Dark Fantasy, bit of mystery thriller
Main Character/ Protagonist: a young woman who works as a maid in an estate with some sort of amnesia, maybe name is Sarah
Supporting Character: a librarian, as far as I can remember, an elderly man?
Antagonist/ Villain: the owner of the estate
Read it: over 15 years ago
Country: Germany
Language of the book: German, could have been a translation from British or American English, though
Plot: (memory very vague)
There is a young woman who likes to read and spends time in the library.
She works as a maid in an estate and one evening she serves at a banquet.
But then, the owner of the estate turns into a monster and tears apart his guests.
In the end, it is revealed, that the young woman, the librarian and the house owner were once friends and are all magicians.
The young woman has a spirit animal or could turn into a cat (not sure about this one), the librarian and the house owner into a raven and wolf, respectively.
In the end, the young woman defeats the house owner and it is revealed that she herself put a spell on them, locking all three of them in the house, until she could defeat the house owner, former friend, magician turned bad.
Thought it could have been "The Wolf, the Raven and the Black Cat" by Bailes, or "Wolfsgarten" by Michaelis, these are not the book I'm looking for, though.
