New Year Sale 2025

Edited: Dec 24, 11:11 am

Post on Folio's Facebook page announcing the New Year sale between 02-12 January 2025: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1EqaKVs2dD/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Described as a '50% off sale' so not sure if that implies everything on sale will be 50% off (and therefore expect only older, less popular titles) or if they really mean 'up to 50% off' in which case there might be smaller reductions on other editions.

ETA: Merry Christmas everyone!

Like last year, it'll be 50% off select inventory (i.e. older slower moving inventory). But great bargains to be had regardless.

Edit: Merry Christmas (and Happy Hanukkah)

Merry Christmas, everyone.

Thanks for all the conversation about all things books and Folio. I don’t comment that often, but am always in the background reading and appreciating your thoughts. It’s a lovely counter for the constant change and challenge of the world.

I haven’t purchased direct from Folio for a while, but the new year sale may tempt me…

Merry Christmas! I duly cleaned up the wishlist last week and am now ready yet again to see no books discounted of the 71 left on there.

>7 NLNils: FS website doesn’t have anything as sophisticated as an ‘items from your wishlist in the sale’ feature, does it? I always appreciate that with Audible.

>8 cyber_naut: Let’s not be silly. The FS website can barely handle a straightforward login and payment half the time. ;)
Let us set expectations for the sale to zero, then rejoice should we be pleasantly surprised. Maybe we’ll get 10% off that title we’ve been after for a few years that has never gone on sale, making it only marginally more than it was upon release and which won’t quite cover the shipping. Praise be! :)

Now that the FS Canadian site has been dissolved and our prices are tied to US currency, I doubt I'll be buying much this year, what with the speculative exchange rate market going crazy.

The good news is I have plenty of unread FS books to look forward to next year, including a Christmas gift of "The Laxdaela Saga" I just received today!

Happy Holidays!

In the last few FS sales I've tended to avoid the fiction and go for one or two non-fiction books as I think there are some quite nice overlooked books in there. The flash sale of London & New York was well worth the price and Shakleton's Antarctica was a nice set at the sale price. I think it will be the same in the upcoming sale.

Is there any pattern of low stock editions being more likely to appear in the sale, e.g. those mentioned by >2 HonorWulf: in this thread: https://www.librarything.com/topic/337150#n8707804.

>19 cyber_naut: Books that Folio wants to clear out are more likely to be in the sale. Perennial sellers that will get a reprint are less likely. My guess is at least half of those will be in the sale, but we'll have to wait until next week to find out.
