Part of the book shows a friendly older man in wooden clogs visiting his animals in an old shed in the woods, ensuring they are warm and happy. Then he takes them to a frozen pond where he throws a large stone on the pond to make sure it's safe to play on. The animals (one being a cat, I believe) then play on the ice, slipping and sliding around. This is all i remember from it.
The book is nicely illustrated.
Read in the United States in the 1980s as a kid. Not sure if it was published then or not.
Remember it being a larger book and not small.
