I read this novel and forgot the title:
Some monks in Middle Age somewhere in Scotland suddenly start to write list of names of everybody on earth with their date of death: for living people and people not yet born till some date in 2000-something.
Archeologist find the books and some American secret agency get them and put them into a database. They discover that this dates are fix and immutable. People dies exactly as predicted, even if precautions are taken.
Someone working for this agency queries some dates of interest to him and fleds, chased by the secret service.

>1 ZenoK: Could it be Library of the Dead? If it's not this, could you tell us when you read it?
