![]() ![]() In a dystopian future, the Capitol of Panem holds a yearly Hunger Games with one female and one male representative from each of the 12 districts. 24 "tributes" duke it out in a last man standing battle to the death for the entertainment of the ruling class. Katniss Everdeen stands with the other 16 year old potential tributes to find out who will be selected this year. It's not her. It's even worse. The Hunger Games was a terrific book the first time I read it and it only got better on this reread. Putting the sophisticated methodology in contrast to the methods used in the prequel made them even more horrific and barbaric. This book had quite the reputation preceding it, and after hearing that it would be adapted into a movie, I decided to see what all the fuss was about. Overall, I was disappointed. It did not come close to living up to expectations. It's an alright book. The world that the book takes place in is fantastic - but that is the only reason I plan on finishing the trilogy. Some of the minor characters, such as Cinna and Haymitch, are also quite interesting. Unfortunately that wraps up what I like about the book. The premise of the Games is an interesting idea, but The Hunger Games has a lot of potential, but having a book about
In a future North America, where the rulers of Panem maintain control through an annual televised survival competition pitting young people from each of the twelve districts against one another, sixteen-year-old Katniss's skills are put to the test when she voluntarily takes her younger sister's place.
