About the Author
Robert Ludlum was born May 25, 1927 in New York City. He enlisted in the Marines at the age of eighteen and received a B.A. from Wesleyan University in 1951. He began acting professionally at the age of sixteen in the 1943 Broadway production of Junior Miss. He also had roles in summer stock and show more appeared in over 200 television dramas for such live programs as Studio One and Kraft Television Theater. He then tried producing with the 1956 Broadway production of The Owl and the Pussycat. He took the play, four years later, to his creation of Shopping-Center Theater at Playhouse-on-the-Mall in Paramus, New Jersey. His first novel, The Scarlatti Inheritance, was published in 1971. His other works include The Matlock Paper, The Chancellor Manuscript, The Bourne Identity, The Scorpio Illusion, The Matarese Countdown, and The Bancroft Strategy. He also wrote under the pseudonyms Jonathan Ryder and Michael Shepherd. He died on March 12, 2001 at the age of 74. (Bowker Author Biography) show less

The Ambler Warning by Robert Ludlum
I found this book at the semi-annual Friends of the Library book sale. It was a pretty good read. However, it did drag on in places. I didn't realize until after I finished this novel and read other reviews that this book was completed by another author after the death of Mr. Ludlum. The plot did have its share of intrigue, mystery and page-turning events. If you are a Robert Ludlum fan, there seems to be enough similarities to his writing in this novel. I would recommend.
Pretty good. Not all of Ludlum's stuff has aged very well, but this story of J. Edgar Hoover's secret files is better than many. I probably read this in the late 70's when it first came out and didn't remember a thing about it. A writer of well-researched and very plausible fiction is approached to write a fictional book about Hoover's files of Kompromat being stolen and used to blackmail the powerful and run a shadow government. Honestly, that premise sounds less far-fetched than it did a few decades ago. Entertaining but formulaic. Not exactly the great American novel, but a decent read.… (more)
Written in 1980 and you can tell it. A 22 hour audio book it was repetitive and long winded.
