It didn't work as a nighttime read aloud to my 10-yr old--it was too heart wrenching. We stopped 1/4 of the way through. After completing it, I would recommend it to our MCBA book club children who like animals & realistic fiction. I don't particularly like the narrator who is a dog but is more human in how it knows way too much about the world--it was annoying.

For whatever reason I liked this book better than the third one (I read that one first). I don't know why. It kept me engaged, reminded me about what the original book was about and was fun to read. I would recommend this book to readers of The BSC series. 5 out of 5 stars.
