Nora Roberts was born in Silver Spring, Maryland on October 10, 1950. Her first book, Irish Thoroughbred, was published in 1981. Since then, she has written more than 200 novels. She writes romances under her own name including Montana Sky, Blue Smoke, Carolina Moon, The Search, Chasing Fire, The show more Witness, The Perfect Hope, Inner Harbor, Dark Witch, Shadow Spell, The Collector, The Villa, The Liar, The Obsession, and Shelter in Place. She writes crime novels under the pseudonym of J. D. Robb including the In Death series. She has been given the Romance Writers of America Lifetime Achievement Award and has been inducted into their Hall of Fame. (Bowker Author Biography) show less

This felt almost like an epilogue or like Nora Roberts had two books in the story and stretched it to three. The fight with the big bad was over quickly and there was a lot about finding place and real family. There's a lot of tragedy too but I didn't feel like there was a motivation for some of the characters to turn to the dark side. Breen was interesting and rather cool and by the end of the story was badass but there was a lot of what usually ends up in book 2 in a trilogy here, lots of training and learning about character that doesn't really make for what you expect from the third book in a trilogy.
Breen and Marco find their family and their places in the worlds and it also begged for a epilogue that was about the aftermath.
Look it's a Nora Roberts book and I'm going to read them but sometimes the trilogies seem to run out of steam part-way through unless there are three distinct couples involved.… (more)

Great book. Excellent characters. I specifically loved the helpful ghosts.

Under Currents by Nora Roberts follows the trend that the current that she has had for the last few books. Abuse, rape and a set of really bad parents for one of the two main characters. Roberts has really fallen into a formula. Sure, romance novels are always predictable, you know there is going to be a HEA. Recently, however, Roberts’ plots have become expected. This one was no different. The hero and heroine were characters she has used over and over they could have been in any book. The big unknown, the big mystery was blah. There were so many ‘bag guys’ that it was hard to get into the suspense of the novel. Plus all of the ‘bad guys’ had the same flaw. They were abusive to their spouses/ children. It is a topic that needs written about in fiction (as a platform to open discussions) but it felt like there were too many, (and one I believe severed no purpose). At times it felt a little fuzzy, especially in the transitions. I felt very removed from the characters a lot of the time only to focus in extremely close for the important scenes. The day to day life of the characters was lost as she jumped her POVs and focuses. I did not really connect to Darby. As it took too long to get to her back story. By the time she was finally read to talk about her past I already disliked her (and her past did not change my opinion). This newest book is not one of Nora Roberts’ finest and I don’t think it will be in the read again pile any time soon.… (more)
