About the Author
R. L. Stine was born in Columbus Ohio on October 8, 1943. He graduated from Ohio State University in 1965. Under the name Jovial Bob Stine, he wrote dozens of joke books and humor books for kids including How to Be Funny, 101 Silly Monster Jokes, and Bozos on Patrol. He also created Bananas, a zany show more humor magazine which he worked on for ten years. His first teen horror novel, Blind Date, was published in 1986 under the name R. L. Stine. His other works include Beach House, Hit and Run, The Babysitter, The Girlfriend, the Goosebumps series, and the Fear Street series. He also wrote an adult novel entitled Superstitious. bed time reading for my 11 year old. he enjoyed it quite well. just a bit of fluff where the adults are useless and the kids save the day.
Any book that gets my 11 year old's attention and keeps it so that he begs for another chapter every night is okay by me. I was too old for the gooosebumps craze but I enjoyed R.L. Stine's Fear Street as a kid and as an adult I'm enjoying my son's enjoyment of Goosebumps. The writing is similar enough to the teen novels that my interest is held as I read about the children's discovery in the basement and what they keep discovering.
Although I'm a big fan of the Goosebumps Horrorland series, this book was a pretty serious disappointment. I remember liking it when I was a kid, but it was a really disappointing reread as an adult. In the past few years I reread all of the Goosebumps Horrorland and was happy to find that they all were just about as good as I remembered. This felt way more stupid to me for some reason. I LOVE Horrorland in the series and particularly in Escape from Horrorland and The Streets of Panic Park. I like Luke and Lizzie in those books as well. This book just dragged on too long with the same thing over and over again. It didn't really feel like there was much of a plot and even though I love Horrorland conceptually, that wasn't enough to save it. It just didn't work as well here. Honestly, as a huge Goosebumps fan I was just kind of bummed by this. Go read the Horrorland series instead. It's incredible.… (more)
