Margaret Weis

This is a book that reads like a series of cliches strung together, and did even back in the 80's when it was first released, but it's just done extremely, extremely well to the point where you don't care. Legitimate classic novel by itself, and sets up a story and setting that eventually resulted in the legitimately unique Twins trilogy.
Comfort food book.

One of the best fantasy series I've ever read. Original world building and great characters!

First of the 'core' trilogy. See if I like it, at least broaden my horizons.

A generic fantasy romp that, as others have pointed out, reads very much like a novelization of someone's DnD sessions. This is perhaps pulpy 80s fantasy in its purest form. There is not much subtlety or nuance to be found in these pages, but it has some interesting elements and can certainly scratch that conventional high fantasy itch.
The chapter with the gnomes was pretty great and almost worth a star on its own by my reckoning.
